David Turrell
Joint Headteacher at Frances Bardsley / Executive Headteacher at The Bridge / Secondary Standards Leader

David studied BSc Geography, PE and Sports Science at Loughborough University before completing his Post Graduate Certificate in Education at the University of Southampton. David started his teaching career in 2000 at Clacton County High School and became Head of Geography in 2002. He moved to be the Head of Geography at Chelmsford County High School in 2004 and then took on the role of Head of Humanities in 2008. Whilst at the school, he led numerous field visits and overseas expeditions to remote regions including Southern Chile and Greenland. He views the development of strong international links as an essential part of education and has furthered this work at FBA through the Erasmus+ project and other projects with schools overseas.
David joined Frances Bardsley in September 2012 as Assistant Headteacher and subsequently held the positions of Vice Principal and Head of School. As a senior leader, he has focused extensively on curriculum and timetabling, standards and assessment, teaching and learning and strategic development. He is committed to staff development and has been a facilitator for the NPQSL on behalf of the Institute of Education and has helped support other headteachers through the Ambition Institute. He completed his NPQH in 2021.
David was appointed Joint Headteacher in 2021 alongside Emilie Darabasz where they share a passion to empower young women to live successful and fulfilling lives.
David became the Executive Headteacher at The Bridge in May 2023 and works alongside Maria Jackson (Head of School) to promote positive mental wellbeing amongst the students and to create a truly brilliant school.
